ROUTES EUROPE: Shortlist for Regional Airport Marketing Awards Announced

Voting closed earlier this month for the third regional heat of the 2012 Routes Airport Marketing Awards, covering the European region and the airports shortlisted for the award have now been confirmed.

This year the awards have been split into three sub-regional categories; Northern Europe, Mediterranean and Southern Europe and Central and Eastern Europe. This year, for the first time, there will also be a fourth category; the Small Airports Category which is purely for European airports serving under 4 million passengers per year. There will be one winner from each category and one of those winners will also be announced as the overall winner for the entire Europe region.

Whichever airport wins this highly sought after industry accolade will be automatically shortlisted in their region for the World Routes Airport Marketing Awards which will take place at the event in Abu Dhabi, 29th September – 2nd October 2012. Already shortlisted for the World Routes Marketing Awards is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Darwin International Airport who were announced earlier in the year as the overall winners of the Americas and Asia regional heats respectively.

Being automatically shortlisted for a World Routes Airport Marketing Award means that the airport does not need votes from outside their region and this will give them the chance to win a globally recognised industry award, no matter their size or region.

Over the last few months airlines have been voting for the airports who they feel have made the most efficient use of their marketing over the last 12 months. Airlines were asked to take into account the airport’s market research activities, marketing communications, business case presentations and joint communication campaigns with third parties. From the airports nominated the following have been shortlisted within each category:

Northern Europe

  • Brussels Airport
  • Hamburg Airport
  • Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
  • Zurich Airport

Mediterranean & Southern Europe

  • Athens International Airport
  • Antalya Airport
  • Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen International Airport
  • Malaga Airport

Central & Eastern Europe

  • Izmir-Adnan Menderes Airport
  • Heraklion Airport
  • Adana Airport
  • Chania International Airport
  • Bremen Airport
  • Friedrichshafen Airport (FDH)
  • Ajaccio Airport

The winner and the highly commended airports will be announced during tonight's Networking Evening at Routes Europe in Tallinn, Estonia.
