ROUTES ASIA: Exploring Chengdu - Delegate Tour Opportunities

This morning delegates at Routes Asia will have the chance to view just some of the key landmarks of the city and its surrounding area thanks to a special complimentary tour programme arranged by this year’s host Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. There are three morning excursions affording the opportunity to visit the Jinsha Site Museum, the ancient town of Anren or the world-renowned Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, which will include a visit to Kuan zhai Alley, a historical symbol of Chengdu.

Chengdu’s history stretches back some 2,000 years, and the city has been crowned The Best Tourism City of China. As well as the Giant Pandas, for which Chengdu has become internationally renowned, the city is also the centre of finance, commerce, transportation, communication and science and technology in the central western part of China.

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

With a 1000 wild giant pandas in existence today, over 80 per cent are living in the Sichuan province. The Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, China is an ecological breeding and research base established for protecting and saving these highly endangered animals. The base is the only giant panda breeding and research base established in a major city in the world and once won the Global 500 Award of the UN Environment Program.

Kuan zhai Alley

Kuan zhai Alley represents the historical and cultural symbol of Chengdu. They are the lakuan zhaist remains of old Chengdu’s “Millennium Young City” setup and in south China the “only existing copy” of Hutong (bystreet) culture and architecture style of north China. It is constituted by three paralleling old streets, Kuan Alley, Zhai Alley, Jing Alley and the Sihe-courtyards among them. People enjoy strolling in the Kuan, tasting in the Zhai and relaxing in the Jing. Kuan zhai Alley provides the whole package of tea, art, western-style food and drink, cultural and creative goods exhibitions, shops and bars. Here you can find the perfect combination of Chinese traditions and Western culture.

Ancient Town – Anren (Secure and Benevolent)

It is the only awarded world–class museum town in China. The Town now has 27 old combined residences of Chinese and western style, 18 modern museums and 16 key institutions of historic and cultural relics protection, including Liu’s Manor Museum and Jianchuan Museum settlement. In these museums, there are more than eight million collections and 136 national first-class historical and cultural relics.
