United Airlines Introduces Bozeman Summer Offering
United Airlines is to introduce a weekly seasonal service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport this summer. The flight will operate every Saturday between June 7, 2012 and September 7, 2012 and will be flown using a Boeing 737-500 of Continental Airlines. The small airport, also known as Gallatin Field, is located seven nautical miles (13 km) northwest of the central business district of Bozeman, a city in Gallatin County, Montana, which serves Bozeman, Big Sky, southwest Montana, Yellowstone National Park and Montana State University. United already offers seasonal flights to Bozeman from Chicago O’Hare International and Denver as well as serving the city through its United Express partners GoJet Airlines and SkyWest Airlines.
AeroSur to Boost Links to Miami International
Private Bolivian carrier Compañía Boliviana de Transporte Aéreo Privado AeroSur is to increase capacity on the Santa Cruz – Miami route from the end of April. The carrier, known simply as AeroSur, currently offers four flights per week on the route but will increase a fifth weekly rotation from April 30, 2012 and growing to a daily schedule between July 1, 2012 and September 30, 2012. This represents a significant growth over the same period last year when the carrier offered just three flights per week. AeroSur competes with American Airlines on the route; the latter offers a daily service using a Boeing 757-200. In the past year an estimated 58,000 O&D passengers travelled between the two destinations, down 5.0 per cent on the previous 12 month period. However, over this period AeroSur has strengthened its position in the marketplace with its share of traffic increasing from 36 per cent to 45 per cent.
VivaAerobus Enhances Mexican Domestic Schedule
Independent Mexican budget carrier VivaAerobus is to introduce three new domestic routes from next month as it expands its presence in the local market. The airline is the fourth largest carrier in the domestic market and currently offers around 450 flights per week, giving it a 9.4 per cent share of the available domestic seat capacity. The airline plans to offer a twice weekly connection between Cancun and the cities of Tuxtla Gutierrez and Villahermosa, while a three times weekly schedule is proposed for the Mexico City – Reynosa route. All three routes are due to commence from March 12, 2012 and will be operated using Boeing 737-300s. There is currently no direct competition on the two Cancun routes, although Aeromexico provides service on the Mexico City – Reynosa link with up to five flights per day using a mix of mainline 737s and Embraer regional jet equipment. Around 6,000 O&D passengers flew between Cancun and Tuxtla Gutierrez and between Cancun and Villahermosa in the past year, connecting via Mexico City on the flights of Aeromexico. The market for the Mexico City – Reynosa link is an estimated 94,000 annual O&D passengers, a figure that will grow as the budget carrier stimulates demand with its low fares: the current average one way fare is $228.
SeaPort Airlines Brings Portland Link to Washington Regional Communities
SeaPort Airlines is to launch a new service between Yakima and Wenatchee in Washington and Portland, Oregon with effect from March 1, 2012. The flights will originate and end in Wenatchee and route via Yakima on the way to and from Portland and will be operated by nine-seat Cessna Caravans. SeaPort will offer three rotations every weekday and a single rotation at weekends enabling business travelers to complete a full day of business in Portland before returning home, eliminating the expense of a hotel and time away from family and the office. Alongside business travelers SeaPort expects to attract a number of leisure passengers, including golf enthusiasts who will be able to connect at Portland to its new service to Southwest Oregon Regional Airport that was launched on January 15, 2012 and provides easy access to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort which includes Old Macdonald, rated the best golf course in America in a recent survey. “We’re pleased to be adding the Yakima and Wenatchee valleys to SeaPort’s growing route map,” remarked Rob McKinney, President, SeaPort Airlines. “These two new markets reflect our continued focus on connecting mid-size communities with major metropolitan areas, where customers can conduct local business or connect to destinations through the country and around the world.”
