ROUTES AMERICAS: AeroMexico to Start Atlanta Service from July 2012

AeroMexico is to launch a daily link between Mexico City and Atlanta this summer adding to the current flights of its SkyTeam alliance partner Delta Air Lines. The new service will be launched on July 1, 2012 and will be operated using a Boeing 737-700. Together, the two alliance members will offer up to six daily rotations on the international route during peak season.

In the past year an estimated 63,000 O&D passengers travelled on the route with around 88 per cent making use of the current flights of Delta Air Lines. Around a further three per cent of passengers also use this flight but already book with AeroMexico through its existing codeshare on the route. The remaining nine per cent using indirect flights, the majority connecting with Continental Airlines via Houston, American Airlines via Dallas or US Airways via Charlotte Douglas.

AeroMexico will also expand its schedule to the Colombian capital Bogota from Mexico City with four additional weekly flights due to come online from March 8, 2012. These will increase the airline’s schedule from a daily basis to eleven times weekly. The network growth on this route has been a long planned development: the Mexican carrier had planned to increase to eleven weekly flights in December 2011 and had been expected to grow to a double daily operation from January 2012, but this did not occur.
