Porter Airlines has unveiled another Embraer E195-E2 route, with service set to launch next year between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and Calgary International Airport (YYC).

The domestic transcontinental route, with a flight time of around 4 hr. 45 min., will start from Feb. 14, 2024, and be flown daily.

Porter already is operating E195-E2 long-haul routes from Ottawa to Edmonton and Vancouver. The carrier's E195-E2s have 132 seats in a two-by-two configuration.

YYC CEO Chris Dinsdale says the route “signals the strength of our partnership [with Porter and its] confidence in the aviation industry in Alberta.”

Porter will go head-to head with WestJet on the YOW-YYC route. The Calgary-based airline operates a Boeing 737-8 between its home market and the Canadian capital.

“This route is another way for passengers to travel across Canada with Porter, including significant connecting flight options via Ottawa,” Porter Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Kevin Jackson says in a statement.

YOY CEO Mark Laroche adds: “This route not only strengthens business ties, but also offers travelers easy access to the vibrant, culturally rich destinations.”

Porter recently announced it would add E195-E2 routes to Los Angeles and San Francisco from Toronto Pearson International Airport in January 2024.

Based at Toronto Billy Bishop Airport, Porter began taking delivery of E195-E2s in December 2022. The formerly all-De Havilland Dash 8-400 operator has been steadily building a network with E195-E2s, including a number of domestic transcontinental routes that have enabled Porter to expand into western Canada for the first time.
