One year after hosting Routes Asia 2025, Perth Airport (PER) is preparing for further growth after a record year, with international demand expected to remain strong.
“Perth Airport recorded its strongest performance on record, surpassing 18 million passengers in 2025 for the first time, reinforcing its position as Australia’s Western hub and a high growth market for our airline partners,” Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove tells Routes.
Total passenger numbers rose 6.6% year on year, with international traffic climbing 12.5% to a new high, while domestic volumes increased 4.3%. The gains reflect sustained demand across Western Australia’s resources sector, alongside accelerating tourism and business travel.
Since Routes Asia 2025, PER has secured a series of new and expanded international services. Qantas has launched nonstop flights to Johannesburg and Auckland, while Cathay Pacific has increased frequencies from Hong Kong to 2X-daily. China Southern Airlines has also committed to year-round nonstop service between Perth and Guangzhou.
Additional momentum has come from new routes and increased frequencies, including services to Bali and Christchurch, as well as the introduction of daily flights from Tokyo Narita by All Nippon Airways from Dec. 1, 2025, through April 19, 2026.

“These developments position Perth Airport for continued international growth in 2026, particularly across Asia, North Asia and long-haul markets, while supporting improved network resilience,” Holsgrove says.
Despite the progress, Perth continues to target further expansion opportunities, particularly in underserved markets. “India remains Perth’s biggest unserved direct market, and new aircraft technology could makes unlocking this market easier than ever before,” she adds.
To support continued growth, the airport is advancing its multibillion-dollar One Airport infrastructure program in partnership with Bechtel. The project is designed to consolidate operations and expand capacity through a suite of upgrades, including a new parallel runway, expanded international terminal facilities, additional car parking and major road improvements. The long-term plan also includes PER’s first on-airport hotel.
“The scale of growth we are seeing highlights the need for additional capacity and modernized infrastructure,” Holsgrove says. “Over the next decade, the ‘One Airport’ transformation will significantly enhance Perth’s appeal as a long-term growth market for airline partners and deliver substantial economic benefits for the state and country.”
