Oman Airports has signed a memorandum of understanding with Algiers Airport Services and Infrastructure Management Company to strengthen cooperation and explore investment opportunities in the management and development of Houari Boumediene International Airport.

The agreement, signed May 5 during an official Omani visit to Algiers, focuses on expanding collaboration in airport management, ground handling services and infrastructure development, according to a statement from Oman Airports.

During the visit, the Omani delegation toured Houari Boumediene International Airport, Algeria’s largest aviation hub. Officials from both countries said the partnership will target improvements in operational performance, service quality and the development of “airport city” projects linked to aviation and commercial activity.

The deal also reflects Oman Airports’ broader strategy to expand its international presence and export its operational expertise beyond the Gulf region. In April, it signed a similar agreement with Rwanda.

According to aviation analytics provider CAPA-Centre for Aviation, Houari Boumediene International Airport handles more than 7 million passengers annually and has an estimated capacity of around 16 million passengers per year. The airport serves as the primary hub for Air Algérie and its regional subsidiary Domestic Airlines.

Established in 2002 and backed by the Oman Investment Authority, Oman Airports oversees the operation of Muscat International Airport, Salalah Airport, Duqm Airport and Sohar Airport.
