SKYTEAM BOOST FOR LOS ANGELES

SkyTeam member, Korean Air has announced that it will increase capacity into Los Angeles from March 27th, 2011. There will be a total of 24 weekly non-stop flights from Seoul Incheon where it competes with Star Alliance member, Asiana.


THAT'S THE SPIRIT

Low-cost operator, Spirit Airlines has announced that it will add five new destinations from its base in Fort Lauderdale with routes to Buffalo, Charleston, Dallas, Latrobe and Plattsburgh. Spirit is currently the largest operator at Fort Lauderdale in terms of scheduled flights with a 19% share, with Southwest Airlines the second largest.


CONTINENTAL TO SERVE TURKS AND CAICOS

Star Alliance member Continental Airlines will inaugurate new services from February next year to Turks and Caicos. Effective February 18th, 2011 a new four-times weekly service to Providenciales will be operated from Newark, New Jersey with B737-800 aircraft. Continental will become the fourth US major to serve Providenciales, with US Airways operating from Charlotte, Delta Air Lines from Atlanta and American Airlines from Miami and JFK.


KLM TO RESUME MIAMI

Effective March 27th, 2011 SkyTeam member KLM will resume scheduled services from Amsterdam to Miami. The route will be operated on a four-times weekly rotation with MD-11 aircraft. IATA BSP data shows that over 125,000 O+D passengers have travelled between Amsterdam and Miami between July 2009 and 2010, with the majority of passengers currently travelling via Detroit.


DELTA TO DISCONTINUE HAWAIIAN SERVICES

SkyTeam member Delta Airlines has announced that it is set to cease flying to Honolulu from both Minneapolis and Detroit. From Minneapolis Delta currently operates four-weekly services which will cease from February 16th. From January 3rd, the Atlanta based airline will cancel its thrice-weekly service from Detroit. In recent months Delta has also ceased flying to Honolulu from both San Diego and Portland, Oregon.
