'New' Alitalia resumes Vienna-Rome flights

Alitalia plans to return to Rome flights from the Summer, with double daily services using Canadair CR9 aircraft, seating a maximum of 90 passengers.

Martha Kammerer, press officer for the Italian State Tourist Board said: “Despite the economic crisis, Italy not only remained the favourite destination of Austrian travellers – we also registered a sizeable improvement in tourism flows from Austria to Italy. During the period from January to September 2009 we recorded an increase of over 15% in the number of persons travelling from Austria to Italy."

The new Alitalia launched flight operations on 13 January (this year). Its route network currently spans 73 destinations.
