Jetblue eyes more Dom Rep service
Low cost carrier Jetblue has applied for regulatory approval to commence new scheduled service from its main JFK base to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, with a view to inaugrating service from May 6th 2010.
Jetblue will face competion in the market with the following airlines operating Punta Cana from the New York market
- American Airlines- Daily rotation with B757 from JFK
- Delta Airlines- 3x weekly service with B737 from JFK
- Continental Airlines- 6x weekly with aircraft mix B737, B757 from Newark (EWR)
Jetblue already has a number of services in the Dominican Republic from its various US points
- Boston- Santa Domingo 4x weekly
- Fort Lauderdale- Santa Domingo 9x weekly
- JFK- Puerto Plata 8x weekly
- JFK- Santa Domingo 28x weekly
- JFK-Santiago 28x weekly
- Orlando- Santa Domingo- 7x weekly
Jetblue also last year inaugrated its first domestic Caribbean service with a 14x weekly San Juan Santa Domingo service backfilling capacity vacated by American Eagle.
