Frontier to serve Mexican markets.

Roughly more than a year after abandoning its strategy to serve Mexican markets from cities outside its Denver hub, Frontier Airlines aims to restart flights from Indianapolis and St. Louis to Cancun.

Frontier ended flights in both markets to Cancun during the second quarter of 2008 as part of strategy to discontinue flights not connecting through its Denver hub. The carrier also entered Chapter 11 during the same quarter.

Now Frontier is seeking approval from US regulators to launch service from both cities to Cancun beginning 19 December using 136-seat Airbus A319 aircraft. The carrier proposes to operate a single daily roundtrip flight in each market.

In its application Frontier states that it has a single potential competitor in each market - Northwest Airlines in Indianapolis-Cancun and USA 3000 on the St. Louis-Cancun pairing.
