The FAA has awarded almost $1.8 billion in airport infrastructure grants to U.S. airports across 46 states.
The funding, announced by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, combines Airport Improvement Program grants with Airport Infrastructure Grant funding established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Among the largest awards is $88.8 million for pavement projects at Denver International Airport, followed by $74 million for runway rehabilitation and apron expansion at Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport will receive $62.4 million for runway and lighting rehabilitation, while Houston Hobby Airport secured $62.2 million for runway construction.
Elsewhere, New York John F. Kennedy International Airport was awarded $47.6 million for taxiway work and construction of an aircraft rescue and firefighting building. Orlando International Airport will receive $36 million for terminal, taxiway and lighting rehabilitation, and Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport secured $28.1 million for taxiway rehabilitation.
"The FAA is prioritizing improving our nation's airports and ensuring we issue grants quickly and efficiently," FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford says. "This funding does more than just rebuild runways and taxiways, it modernizes the travel experience for American families, ensuring our airports are safe and ready for the future."
The awards also include funding for passenger-focused improvements. Portland International received $12.3 million to reconstruct its terminal, New Orleans Louis Armstrong International was awarded $6.8 million for a terminal people mover, Traverse City received $5.9 million to improve its terminal and Fort Wayne International secured funding for terminal reconstruction.
