SPANAIR TO ADD GERMAN LINKS191110-spanair1

Star Alliance member Spanair has announced new services to Germany commencing April 2011. Operating from its Barcelona hub, Spanair will introduce new scheduled service to Hamburg, effective April 4th to be operated thrice-weekly and the following day, it will begin a four-times weekly service to Berlin Tegel. The new routes will attack Air Berlin which operates a thrice-weekly service to Hamburg and a five-times weekly service to Berlin Tegel from Barcelona.


AIR BERLIN TO COMMENCE LONDON GATWICK SERVICES191110-airberlin

Air Berlin has announced that effective February 7th, it will switch its London services from Hannover and Nuremburg from Stansted to London Gatwick. The routes will be operated up to a possible twice-daily. Scheduled flights from Dusseldorf, Paderborn and Muenster will remain operating into London Stansted.


BRITISH AIRWAYS TO BEGIN REGIONAL SERVICES TO PARIS ORLY191110-ba

British Airways has announced that it will begin scheduled flights into Paris Orly (ORY) from London Heathrow. The new service will begin January 10th and will be operated 12 times- weekly. There is currently no link between LHR and ORY, although BA does serve Paris Charles de Gaulle over sixty times weekly during winter season. The new link will improve feed for the BA Open Skies service out of Orly which currently has a double daily service into New York, Newark and a five-times weekly service to Washington Dulles.

Whilst adding new services to Germany, Spanair has also confirmed that it will add services to the Cote D’Azur in France, with a twice-weekly service from Barcelona to Nice. The route will commence April 1st. The route is currently served twice-daily by Iberia and over 107,000 O+D passengers have flown the sector between July 2009 and July 2010.


MALEV TO BEGIN BARCELONA FLIGHTS191110-malev

Oneworld member Malev, will begin a new four-times weekly service from its Budapest hub to Barcelona. Commencing March 27th 2011, the new route will compete with a thrice-weekly service operated by low-cost carrier Wizz Air on a route that has seen over 100,000 annual O+D passengers travel between July 2009 and July 2010.


MERIDIANAFLY TO SERVE LOURDES191110-meridianafly

Italian operator, Meridianfly will begin scheduled services from Rome Fiumicino to Lourdes, France. The route will begin from April 4th and will be operated four-times weekly with A320 equipment.


URAL AIRLINES TO BEGIN ISTANBUL FLIGHTS

Russian carrier Ural Airlines is slated to begin new non-stop services from its Ekaterinburg base to Istanbul Ataturk effective November 22nd. The route will be operated twice-weekly with A320 equipment and will compete with existing Star Alliance service by Turkish Airlines, which operates the route on a four-times weekly basis with A320 equipment.


AIR ASTANA ADDS NEW LINKS191110-airastana

The national airline of Kazakhstan has revealed that it will add new services from its Almaty and Astana bases in December. Effective December 2nd, it will add non-stop service to Tashkent, Uzbekistan competing with SCAT which operates a twice-weekly service, Uzbekistan Airways five-times weekly and CSA Czech Airlines which operates a four-times weekly extension flight.

From December 8th, Air Astana will also launch new non-stop service from Astana to Ekaterinburg, a route that currently has no year round non-stop service.
