WIZZ EXPANDS BUCHAREST BASE221010-wizz

Wizz Air has announced that it will add a fifth based unit at its base in Bucharest Baneasa from December 15th. The fifth A320 will mean an increase on twelve of its existing sixteen routes. Wizz will also launch new non-stop service from the Romanian capital to Larnaca and Malaga in summer 2011 on a twice and thrice-weekly rotation respectively. Wizz will go head to head on these city pairs with low-cost operator Blue Air which operates a thrice-weekly to Malaga and a six-times weekly to Larnaca. Romanian national carrier Tarom serves Larnaca from Bucharest's Henri Coanda Airport on a daily basis.


221010-SASSAS TO BOOST AMSTERDAM SERVICES

Star Alliance member, SAS will increase existing scheduled services from Stockholm to Amsterdam. Effective March 27th, 2011 it will add a third daily frequency, on a route which it competes with KLM which operates five-daily frequencies. IATA BSP data (Airport IS) shows that a quarter of a million O+D passengers flew between the two cities from July 2009 to July 2010, with KLM having a 68% share of the market.


AEROSVIT ADDS NEW CITY MARKETS221010-aerosvit

Ukraine flag carrier, Aerosvit has announced new services from its Kiev hub to Minsk, effective November 1st and to be operated thrice-weekly with E145 aircraft. This will compete with a daily Belavia service. October 30th, will see Aerosvit inaugurate a twice weekly to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, a route currently served by Uzbekistan Airways and Windrose Air, both twice-weekly.


JET2.COM ADDS BRIVE221010-jet2

UK based leisure carrier Jet2.com has announced that for summer 2011 it will add non-stop service from Manchester to Brive, France. Jet.2com which has its main bases located in northern UK will offer twice-weekly service and will be the eight destination served in France by Jet2.com


221010-italia-lufthansaLUFTHANSA ITALIA TO OFFER NEW SEASONAL ROUTES

Lufthansa Italia has announced that it will launch new seasonal routes from its base at Milan Malpensa with a four-weekly service on Cagliari and Palma de Mallorca. Both routes will begin July 2nd. The routes fit into Lufthansa Italia's 'Three Pillar Strategy'. The regional operator will serve the routes with A319 equipment and will compete with easyJet on the Cagliari sector, with the low-cost operator serving the route six-times weekly.


NORWEGIAN HEADS TO MALMO221010-norweigian

Having recently announced that it will open a base in Helsinki, Norwegian has revealed that it will introduce a new Stockholm to Malmo service beginning December 2nd. The route will be operated thrice-weekly and will be Norwegian's first service into Malmo.


CROATIA AIRLINES ADDS NEW ROUTES FROM COASTAL CITY221010-croatia-airlines

Star Alliance member, Croatia Airlines will begin new services from its Dubrovnik base to Athens and Venice, effective November 1st. Athens will be operated three times per week, with Venice operated twice-weekly.


CITYJET TO LINK FLORENCE221010-cityjet

Air France subsidiary, CityJet, will launch a thrice-weekly service from London City to Florence beginning December 22nd. The service will increase to a six-times weekly service from January 11th. The only other service from Florence to London is twice-daily service operated by Meridiana Fly to London
