Emirates to launch Baghdad

Dubai based Emirates Airlines will launch non-stop scheduled service to the Iraqi capital of Baghdad from June 1st. The service will be operated with widebody aircraft (A330-200) on a 3x weekly basis.

Emirates will compete with Iraqi Airways, which operates a 6x weekly narrowbody service. IATA BSP data shows that between Feb 09-10 over 33,000 O+D pax have flown the city pairs with the majority of leakage via Bahrain with Gulf Air.
