easyJet expand European bases
easyJet has announced a significant expansion from its base at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. Fresh from the 125 IATA slot conference in Vancouver, easyJet has announced new routes across its network with the main focus on CDG and Milan Malpensa Airport. The new routes are owing to three new A320 aircraft entering the fleet.
At Paris CDG, easyJet will launch a new daily frequency to Helsinki, a 3x weekly to Catania, a 4x weekly to Agadir and a 6x weekly to Casablanca. easyJet currently operates 450 weekly departures giving the budget carrier a 5% market share, way behind Air France which enjoys a 58% market share. The new services could make easyJet the second largest carrier in the CDG market, however, and with the airline keen to put more capacity into the pirmary Paris airport its market share is set to increase.
At Malpensa, Milan easyJet will launch a 3x Agadir, 3x weekly Catania and a 6x weekly Casablanca. The budget airline is currently the largest carrier in the MXP market with a 22% market share operating 670 weekly flights.
