Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) have agreed to strengthen aviation cooperation between Qatar and China and expand global connectivity through Doha.

The memorandum of understanding signed on Sept. 23 will see the two hubs collaborate on joint projects covering passenger and cargo operations, technology, service design and innovation.

Hamad International COO Hamad Al Khater said the partnership “affirms Hamad International Airport key role in driving aviation diplomacy and advancing Qatar’s partnership with China.”

He added: “By collaborating with Beijing Daxing, one of the world’s most forward-looking airports, we are anticipating the evolving needs of tomorrow’s travelers and shaping the future of global connectivity, with Doha as China’s trusted gateway to the Middle East and beyond.”

Hamad International Airport connects to nine cities in Greater China: Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Xiamen. These cities are connected to more than 120 global destinations through Doha.

Beijing Daxing CEO and President Zhang Lin said the collaboration will enhance the competitiveness of both hubs, while deepening cultural and economic exchange between China and Qatar.

“As two important international aviation hubs, Daxing and Hamad will work together to create a ‘golden channel’ for airline networks, a ‘green corridor’ for freight logistics, and promote ‘smart innovation’ in operations,” Zhang said.

The sister airport agreement coincides with expanding airline cooperation. Starting Oct. 16, Qatar Airways will codeshare on China Southern Airlines’ three weekly direct flights between Beijing Daxing and Doha.

China Southern will also extend its “CZ” code on Qatar Airways flights to 15 destinations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, as well as on routes linking Doha with Chengdu Tianfu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, pending regulatory approval.
