Delta will not close hubs, says president

Newly expanded Delta Air Lines has no plans to pull out of any of its seven hubs, its president has said.

Ed Bastian, who is also CEO of Northwest, said that while the proximity of some of its bases, such as Detroit and Cincinnati, was not ideal there were no closure plans on the horizon.

"If you started an airline from scratch, would you put a hub in Cincinnati and Detroit and Minneapolis and Memphis? No, you wouldn't. But the reality is that they are there."

The merger of Delta and Northwest Airlines resulted in seven US hubs at Detroit, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Memphis, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York JFK and Salt Lake City.
