Cityflyer to add longer segments from city airport
BA Cityflyer has announced that is to launch new services from its main operating base at London City Airport. London City Airport has traditionally linked London to other European capital city airports, especially those with a large financial sector. Leading destinations from LCY are currently
- Edinburgh - 54 weekly departures
- Geneva - 53 weekly departures
- Luxembourg - 30 weekly departures
However, from May 2010, BA City flyer will take a marked turn in strategy from LCY and launch new 3x weekly service to Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza. BA Cityflyer has taken delivery of E170 and E190 with a longer range than its previous Avrojet aircraft allowing it to serve these sunshine markets.
BA Cityflyer currently operates 82 weekly flights out of LCY, meaning it is the second largest carrier in terms of flights operated. Air France is the leading operator, since it incorporated VLM into the Air France Group, it also has Cityjet, which were two of the largest carriers at LCY. Air France operates 104 weekly flights with a market share of 31%.
