CAI adds new markets
Alitalia has revealed plans for two new European routes from its Rome (FCO) hub. The Skyteam carrier will inaugurate a service from March 28th on the following pairs:
Rome-Vienna to be operated on a twice-daily rotation using a CRJ900, which will complement a new daily service to Malaga - operated using an A320.
There is already considerable demand between Rome and Vienna. Between Sep 08 and 09 an estimated 196,000 passengers flew the route with the majority of pax flying on Austrian Airlines and low-cost carrier Niki. Austrian is the largest incumbent with a 26% market share, while Niki has a 16% passenger share. CAI will go head-to-head with Austrain Airlines.
The only carrier that currently operates between Rome and Malaga is Vueling, with a 35% market share - transporting over 60,000 pax.
