AirTran in Orlando expansion
AirTran Airways has announced new scheduled service between its main base of Orlando and the city of Des Moines, which is slated to commence from March 6th 2010 and will be operated with B717 aircraft. The new route will be the 43rd city that the budget carrier connects to from Orlando.
AirTran is currently the second largest carrier in Orlando in terms of weekly flights offered. Southwest Airlines is the leading carrier with over a 26% market share equating to over 1370 weekly departures, closely followed by AirTran which has a 14% market share of all operated flights at MCO with 770 weekly departures. The other leading carriers in terms of flights departing are Jetblue Airways, Delta and Continental.
