Indian LCC IndiGo is further expanding its international network in August with four new overseas destinations joining the airline’s route map.

Service to the first of the four new points will commence on Aug. 5, connecting Mumbai with Nairobi, Kenya. The route will become the airline’s first to Africa. Additionally, IndiGo intends to begin scheduled nonstop flights between Mumbai and Jakarta, Indonesia, from Aug. 7, operating daily aboard Airbus A320neo aircraft.

A 3X-weekly service from New Delhi to Tbilisi, Georgia, will then start the following day, followed by a 4X-weekly route from New Delhi to Baku, Azerbaijan, on Aug. 11. Also starting in August are two new routes from Ahmedabad, in the Indian state of Gujarat, to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. OAG Schedules Analyser data shows the expansion takes the LCC’s international network to 26 international destinations.

Other eye-catching new routes starting this month are European flights being launched by North American carriers JetBlue Airways and Air Canada. New York’s JetBlue plans to open the first of two services to Amsterdam on Aug. 29, flying daily from New York John F. Kennedy (JFK) with A321neos. Operations from Boston begin in September. JetBlue had previously struggled to obtain slots at the Netherlands airport.

Meanwhile, Air Canada will add a new service to Belgium’s capital Brussels from Aug. 1, operating five times per week using Boeing 787-8s. The route was originally slated to launch in 2020, but was delayed because of the pandemic. It will complement the Star Alliance member’s existing flights to Brussels from Montreal.

Elsewhere, Chinese carriers Beijing Capital Airlines and Shenzhen Airlines also plan to launch new routes to Europe. Beijing Capital Airlines’ Hangzhou-Madrid service starts on Aug. 27, followed by Shenzhen Airlines’ Shenzhen-Barcelona, Spain, flights the next day. Both routes will be served twice a week.

Other new routes launching in August include Vietjet flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Jakarta and Cochin, India; LATAM Airlines Group’s nonstop service between Sao Paulo and Los Angeles; and Faroe Islands flag-carrier Atlantic Airways’ connection to New York Stewart International Airport.
