Korean Air has taken a significant step in its long-term fleet upgrade and expansion effort by placing orders for another 20 Airbus A321neos.
The latest deal follows a previous order for 30 A321neos. Korean Air received its first A321neo in December 2022, and has so far received eight of this type.
The aircraft from the initial order are due to be delivered by 2028, and those from the latest order are scheduled to be delivered after that, a Korean Air spokesman told Aviation Daily.
Korean Air is using its current A321neo deliveries partly to replace its Airbus A330s. The new order will allow the airline to expand its fleet.
The carrier configures its A321neos in a two-class layout with 182 seats, of which eight are business class and 174 economy. The aircraft are used on short- and medium-haul routes to Southeast Asia, China and Japan.
The Aviation Week fleet database shows Korean Air has a total of 73 aircraft of all types remaining on order, not including the latest A321neo deal. Its aircraft on order includes 9 Boeing 787-9s, 16 787-10s, 25 737-8s and 23 A321neos.
