KLM Cityhopper’s fleet comprises 17 E175-E1s (88 seats), 17 E190-E1s (100 seats) and 25 E195-E2s (136 seats).
KLM Cityhopper is evaluating its 25 Embraer E2 options and aiming to make a decision by year-end.
“I hope that we can have a decision this year,” KLM Cityhopper managing director Maarten Koopmans told ATW on the sidelines of the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) general assembly in Belfast.
As things stand, KLM Cityhopper’s fleet comprises 17 E175-E1s (88 seats), 17 E190-E1s (100 seats) and 25 E195-E2s (136 seats).
In the run up to ERA, a KLM Cityhopper spokesperson said the airline was ultimately planning to harmonize its 59-aircraft fleet to exclusively Embraer E195-E2s, progressively reducing the number of aircraft wet-leased from German Airways and Air France subsidiary HOP!
During the ERA event, ATW asked Koopmans how many aircraft he is looking at. “When we got the first 25, we had a 25 fixed and then 25 options, so we're looking at what do we do with those options,” he said.
Transitioning to exclusively E195-E2s would simplify pilot and technician training, reduce spare parts inventories and improve efficiency in operations and ground handling.
“You always look at other types, but from an operational perspective, my goal in life is one type,” Koopmans said.
