International Airlines Group (IAG) has converted options for six Boeing 787-10s held by British Airways (BA) into firm orders. 

The airline group also opted to add a further six 787-10 options to British Airways’ orderbook. 

The Aviation Week Network Fleet Discovery database shows British Airways has 18 777-9s on order with options for 24 aircraft, plus orders for five 787-10s.  BA also has three Airbus A350-1000s on order with options for 10 aircraft. 

Additionally, IAG is converting an option for a single A350-900 held by Iberia into a firm order. The carrier has three of the aircraft on order according to Fleet Discovery, along with orders for 10 A321neos and a single A320neo. 

IAG noted that it has negotiated substantial discounts from the aircraft’s list prices. The jets are scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026 and will be used by BA and Iberia to restore capacity in their long-haul fleets. IAG CEO Luis Gallego said the widebody jets would contribute to the airlines reaching pre-pandemic capacity levels. 

The latest conversion of aircraft options by IAG follows its decision in June to convert 10 A320neo options into firm orders. Those aircraft are set to replace A320ceos being operated by the group’s airlines and are scheduled for delivery in 2028. The airlines that make up IAG are Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling.
