Two new airliner power-plants are offering an unprecedented choice: With engine bleed air to power aircraft systems, or without. It's a package deal, of course; in order to get the bleedless powerplant one must order the 787, while the A350 only comes with bleed air.

Boeing will install Class 3 Electronic Flight Bags on two 777-200ERs and four 737-700s for TAAG Angola Airlines beginning in third-quarter 2006, making TAAG the first African carrier to fly the Class 3 EFB in commercial service, the first commercial operator to use the EFB on a 737NG platform and the first carrier to use it on multiple fleet types.

CIT Group selected IAE's V2500 to power up to 24 A320s, comprising 12 firm and 12 option aircraft. If fully realized, the contract will be worth more than $400 million to IAE. CIT already has 33 V2500-powered aircraft in service and another 10 on order.

Aviation Partners Boeing said Virgin Express ordered four 737-300 Blended Winglet shipsets, the first of which will be installed by Sabena Technics in December. The carrier leases its 737s from GECAS but will purchase the winglets directly.

Bombardier will interrupt production of its CRJ200 in mid-January, company officials announced Friday. The 50-seat RJ, introduced in 1992 to launch customer Lufthansa CityLine, was heralded as an aircraft that would revolutionize the Regional airline industry. More than 1,000 CRJ200s made it to market, but its popularity since has been overtaken by the new technology and better economics of larger next-generation RJs.

Eurowings phased out its last turboprop, an ATR 72, on Sunday. The German carrier operated 44 ATR 42/72 aircraft at one time. It now is an all-jet operator with a fleet of CRJ100s/200s and BAe 146s. Some of the ATRs will be converted to freighters.

Air New Zealand ordered two additional 787-8s for delivery in 2010 and 2011, doubling its original order. The aircraft are part of a 777/787 order placed in July 2004 for 10 firm buys and 42 price rights. Analysts expect ANZ also will order more 777s beyond its commitment for eight 777-200ERs. It takes delivery of the first 777-200ER this week.
