Bombardier Aerospace's operating profit for its fiscal first quarter ended April 30 more than doubled to C$112 million ($103.7 million) from C$55 million in the year-ago period owing to robust aircraft sales. Aerospace's revenue lifted 15% to C$2.3 billion. It received 91 net orders for regional aircraft, nearly a fivefold increase over 19 ordered in the year-ago quarter, comprising 53 regional jets and 38 turboprops. Delta Air Lines' order for 30 CRJ900s led the way, with Horizon Air and Pinnacle Airlines each ordering 15 Q400s to lead turboprop sales.

Wizz Air and GECAS announced the sale and leaseback of four V-2500-powered A320s scheduled to be delivered to the LCC next year, doubling the number of aircraft covered by the arrangement between the companies. Aircraft will be leased on 11-year terms. Separately, Wizz announced that its advertised fares now will include all taxes, charges and handling fees.

Rolls-Royce said Avion Aircraft Trading selected the Trent 700 to power the eight A330-200 freighters ordered last week. Engine order is worth approximately $300 million at list prices. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2010.

Philippine Airlines exercised purchase rights on two 777-300ERs, bringing its commitment to the type to four firm orders. The purchase rights were part of an order placed last fall. The carrier also announced the signing of an LOI with GECAS for the lease of two additional two-class 777-300ERs. Deliveries of the six aircraft will run from the third quarter of 2009 through 2010. PAL's current widebody fleet comprises five 747-400s, four A340-300s and eight A330-300s.

Lynx Aviation, the startup regional subsidiary of Frontier Airlines, selected Rockwell Collins to provide its Head-up Guidance System for 10 Q400s. Installation on the first aircraft is expected to be completed in July.

ATR on Friday delivered the first of 10 72-500s to Aer Arann. The carrier currently operates a fleet of 14 ATR 42s and 72s.

Delta Air Lines yesterday announced an order for 14 CRJ900s valued at $511 million and said it will place the aircraft with regional subsidiary Comair, apparently quelling speculation that it would attempt to sell the Cincinnati-based carrier.

Cebu Pacific Air ordered six 72-seat ATR 72-500s plus eight options in a deal worth more than $250 million, the manufacturer said. The aircraft will enable the carrier to operate into more Philippine airports that are restricted by shorter runways. President and CEO Lance Gokongwei said the order "is a continued manifestation of Cebu Pacific's commitment to bring air travel closer to more Filipinos and to bring them to more destinations which we cannot operate to at the moment."
