Kartika Airlines of Jakarta signed a deal with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft for 15 firm Superjet 100s worth $448 million plus 15 options, the manufacturer announced Friday, according to press reports from Moscow. Deliveries of the 95-seat aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2011. Kartika operates 737-200s.

Boeing is set to announce the fifth delay to its 787 program, with first flight expected to be pushed back to the second quarter of 2009 and insiders suggesting the aircraft will lift off in late May. The new delay, first revealed by ATWOnline on Oct. 30, is expected to be confirmed by the manufacturer late next week ahead of its third-quarter results announcement on Dec. 15.

Embraer announced that Arkia Israeli Airlines will take delivery of an E-195 previously delivered to Air Europa.

Transaero took delivery of the second of 10 Tu-214s it will lease from Financial Lease Co. under a 2005 contract. Aircraft will seat eight in business class and 186 in economy and will enter service early next year on medium-haul flights to Spain, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan. The first PS-90A-powered aircraft entered the fleet in April 2007.

Air Europa parent Globalia signed a contract converting purchase rights for six E-195s worth $237 million at list prices, Embraer announced. Globalia placed its initial order in February (ATWOnline, Feb. 8). Delivery of the first newly ordered aircraft is scheduled for mid-2010. Air Europa will be the first carrier to operate the E-195 in a single-class, 122-seat configuration, Embraer said.

UPS Airlines added its first 747-400F to its European fleet, replacing an MD-11 freighter. Aircraft is powered by CF6-80C2B5Fs and will operate a five-times-weekly Cologne-Hong Kong service.

Lufthansa confirmed to ATWOnline yesterday that it temporarily has removed four A300-600s from service as a result of reduced demand. "We have parked the aircraft for an unspecified time," a spokesperson said. LH has no current plans to park additional aircraft, but if further capacity adjustments are necessary it will consider removing A340-300s from the fleet, the spokesperson added.

Teledyne Controls won a contract with Wizz Air to provide its Flight Data Interface Management Unit for installation on 70 A320s and possibly 25 more. Technology will handle flight data acquisition, aircraft condition monitoring and data recording. Wizz also selected Teledyne's Application Generation Software to enhance aircraft condition monitoring capability.
