Rolls-Royce said its Trent 700 last week successfully powered the first scheduled flight of an Aeroflot A330-200 from Moscow Sheremetyevo to St. Petersburg. Flight marks the Trent's service entry in Russia, and "demonstrates the growing presence of Rolls-Royce in the Russian market," VP-Customer Business Nick Devall said. In June 2007, Rolls won a $600 million deal with SU to provide the Trent 700 to power 10 leased A330-200s and A330-300s and support the engines under a long-term TotalCare service agreement.

Airbus booked 84 firm orders in November, including 51 from Etihad Airways, helping it pull away from Boeing in the 2008 orders race. It also delivered 46 aircraft.

GE Aviation yesterday announced a $40 million deal with Azerbaijan Airlines to provide CF6-80C2s to power two forthcoming 767-300ERs. Deliveries are slated for 2010. Azerbaijan operates CFM56-5s on its A320 fleet and has four CFM56-7B-powered 737-900s and two GEnx-powered 787s on order.

Kartika Airlines of Jakarta signed a deal with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft for 15 firm Superjet 100s worth $448 million plus 15 options, the manufacturer announced Friday, according to press reports from Moscow. Deliveries of the 95-seat aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2011. Kartika operates 737-200s.

Boeing is set to announce the fifth delay to its 787 program, with first flight expected to be pushed back to the second quarter of 2009 and insiders suggesting the aircraft will lift off in late May. The new delay, first revealed by ATWOnline on Oct. 30, is expected to be confirmed by the manufacturer late next week ahead of its third-quarter results announcement on Dec. 15.

Transaero took delivery of the second of 10 Tu-214s it will lease from Financial Lease Co. under a 2005 contract. Aircraft will seat eight in business class and 186 in economy and will enter service early next year on medium-haul flights to Spain, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan. The first PS-90A-powered aircraft entered the fleet in April 2007.

Air Europa parent Globalia signed a contract converting purchase rights for six E-195s worth $237 million at list prices, Embraer announced. Globalia placed its initial order in February (ATWOnline, Feb. 8). Delivery of the first newly ordered aircraft is scheduled for mid-2010. Air Europa will be the first carrier to operate the E-195 in a single-class, 122-seat configuration, Embraer said.
