Oman Air took delivery of the first of seven A330-200s ordered in 2007. Aircraft is powered by Trent 700s and is configured with 20 seats in business class and 196 in economy. It was acquired under a lease agreement with Dublin-based AWAS and will be deployed on long-haul routes from Muscat to London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Frankfurt as well as destinations in Asia. Five of the seven aircraft were ordered directly from Airbus.

BAE Systems has teamed up with Quest International UK to offer AirManager, "a radical new active air management system" for aircraft. BAE said it has engineered and certificated the installation of AirManager on its own BAe 146/Avro RJ and has designed and certificated an STC for installation on the 757, "with a trial unit being evaluated." Under the agreement with Quest, it will act as an authorized distributor for sales to airlines of the system for an initial five-year period.

Contact Air F100 carrying 78 passengers and crew made an emergency landing yesterday morning at Stuttgart with retracted landing gear, forcing the airport to close for several hours. There were no serious injuries. According to Flight Safety Foundation's Aviation Safety Network, the Lufthansa Regional flight's pilot decided to carry out the emergency landing after "several unsuccessful attempts to unlock the gear." Video showed a hard landing during which sparks and smoke spewed from the undercarriage. ASN said the aircraft entered service for Contact on Sept.

Bahrain Air plans to place a firm order for three A320 family aircraft in January, MD Ibrahim Abdulla Al Hamer told reporters. "The company had planned to buy about four Airbus planes. Due to the current international financial issues there is a delay in the purchasing process and a reduction in the number to three airplanes." It signed a letter of intent for up to six aircraft last summer (ATWOnline, Aug. 27, 2008).

ACG Air Cargo Germany took delivery of a second 747-400SF. The startup carrier, which received its operating certificate in July, operates charter flights out of Frankfurt Hahn and said it expects to secure traffic rights for scheduled operations shortly without offering further details.

A project to convert the nine-passenger Britten-Norman Islander to hybrid-electric propulsion for short-haul flights has kicked off in the UK. Project Fresson is led by Cranfield Aerospace Solutions (CAeS), which plans to obtain and market a supplemental type certificate (STC) for the conversion.
