Air Zimbabwe to refurbish B767s after IOSA approvals

AIR Zimbabwe is planning to refurbish its two Boeing 767 aircraft and an MA60 following its readmission into IATA following the successful completion of the IOSA safety audit.

The airline has said it intends to restart major international routes starting with London in November. The airline had suspended operations following debt, safety and staff issues.
The Harare-based airline has signed up with Air France-KLM to supply MRO services. It resumed some domestic routes in April and chartered an A320 to carry out its Johannesburg service.
It has also leased two Embraer E-Jets for domestic services from Harare to Victoria Falls and Bulawayo
Some US news sources suggested that Air Zimbabwe would be leasing two A380s but this seems unlikely given comments made by the airline’s chairman Ozias Bvute last week when he said the airline was presently not in a position to afford the cost of even reducing its head count.
Byute did say that the A320 and the Ejets has led to a 25% reduction in fuel costs.
Nonetheless acting group chief executive Innocent Mavhunga said the airline was considering bringing its fleet of ageing Boeing 737-200s out of mothballs to add to the domestic service while the MA60 was undergoing refurbishment.
