Air Mauritius results for the Quarter ended 31 December 2015

Air Mauritius announced profits of EUR 10.5 million for the 3rd quarter (1st of October-31st of December) of financial year 2015-2016. The airline is also taking a series of initiatives in order to improve connectivity between Africa and Asia

This positive result was achieved despite the negative consequence of the hedging exercise carried out in 2014, resulting in a payout of EUR 6.6 million for this quarter. The total number of passengers carried was 418,188 which represents a growth of 11.5%. The load factor which is a key indicator of resource utilization, increased from 73.1% to 80.6%. Equity rose from EUR 42.9 million in March 2015 to EUR 64.8 million in December 2015.

A series of initiatives in order to improve connectivity between Africa and Asia.
The ‘Air Corridor’ which hinges on hub Mauritius and hub Singapore will be launched on the 11th March 2016 with the ambition to become a bridge between the region and Asia. The project for the setting up of a regional airline is ongoing and the launch should be announced very soon after validation from the different stakeholders. In the meantime, operations to Maputo and Dar es Salaam have been scheduled for May this year and is a clear signal in support of the national initiative to reinforce connectivity between Asia and Africa. In the coming months, Air Mauritius will have a new ATR 72 in its fleet which will help to step up air service to Rodrigues.
