Aeroportos de Moçambique reduces international gateways in Mozambique
Aeroportos de Moçambique (ADM) plans to reduce the number of international gateways in Mozambique, from eight down to three.
Emanuel Chaves, chairman of ADM, stated that the change would make maximum use of the newly refurbished airports in Maputo, Beira and Nacala, ch-aviation reports.
The airports at Nampula, Pemba, Tete, Inhambane and Vilanculos are now to be used for domestic operations only.
Their closure is expected to benefit local carriers, however the tourist towns of Inhambane, Pemba, and Vilanculos are expected to suffer, as they will no longer benefit from the South African tourists that resulted from their direct flights to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo.
