Routes Africa 2016 to be held in Tenerife

Routes Africa will be held in Tenerife this year, hosted by the Tenerife Tourism Corporation and the Canary Islands Government.

The route development forum will bring together around 250 professionals from the field to discuss air services to, from and within Africa.
Despite Tenerife being a part of the European Union, its close proximity to Africa has strengthened trade links and economic development between the two.
Over 200 Canarian companies operate in Africa, making the island a suitable location to host Routes Africa.
Aviation plays a big role in Tenerife’s economy, with 12 million passengers being transported to the island each year, and it plans to become a stepping-stone to Africa, connecting the continent to Europe and North and South America.
Katie Bland, director of Routes, said: "West Africa is an important trading partner for Tenerife due to its geographical position, and there is huge potential to develop more air service to the African continent. Hosting Routes Africa will support Tenerife's strategy to become an aviation hub connecting West Africa to Europe and North America.
The forum will be held 26-28 June.
