The trend among LCCs to add widebodies to their fleets is gaining momentum in Asia, but it is not making headway elsewhere.

Japan Airlines (JAL) is adding another 17 aircraft to its order for Boeing 737-8s and has also revealed plans to transfer 10 787-9s to group subsidiary Zipair.

Japanese LCC Zipair plans to add its fifth U.S. destination next year with flights to Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

New Asia-Pacific routes are being opened by Zipair Tokyo, Turkish Airlines and WestJet.

Japan’s Zipair expects to receive more Boeing 787s in 2025 to continue its network growth, while also considering fleet options for its next expansion phase.
