While its rivals Emirates Airlines and Etihad Airways are looking closely at the sustainability of their business models, Qatar Airways shows no signs of slowing its incredible network growth and surprised guests at this year’s Arabian Travel Market in Dubai this week by revealing an additional 12 new markets that should see the airline service in 2018.
The airport, which has recently been named as one of Ryanair’s latest bases, have their sights set on serving the likes of Belfast, Florence and the Baltic regions.
Ryanair first introduced flights into Prague in November 2007 and currently offers at least daily flights from Brussels Charleroi, Dublin and London Stansted. The launch of the base will support the introduction of new daily flights to Bergamo and Rome in Italy and will boost annual capacity by around 100,000 to 625,000 seats.
In a move that will boost capacity in all three markets, the A380s will replace Boeing 777-300ERs during the first half of next year. Emirates will use a two-class A380 on one of its three daily flights between Dubai and Birmingham (EK039/040), while three-class examples will be deployed on its routes from Dubai to Prague and Taipei from May 1, 2016.
Despite the Czech Republic capital, Prague being on Birmingham Airport’s radar for many years, a scheduled meeting in Durban, South Africa in September brought contact and paved the way for the formal announcement of the regular service just five weeks later.

Transaero will offer a daily flight to the Czech capital as part of its growing Moscow Vnukovo international network from March 29, 2015 using a Next-Generation Boeing 737. The route will complement the airline’s flights from both Moscow and St Petersburg to Pardubice which have been in operation since 1996 and which witnessed a nine per cent year-on-year rise in passenger demand in 2014.
