The latest schedule update from the airline includes the introduction of new non-stop services from Calgary to Terrace and Nanaimo; from Vancouver to Comox; from Toronto to Austin and from Montreal to Mexico City. Air Canada is also switching its existing Toronto-Kelowna and Toronto-Sydney, NS services to Air Canada rouge due to the high volumes of leisure traffic on the routes, while Air Canada rouge will also introduce a new domestic seasonal link between Calgary and Halifax.
In its application to the US DOT, JetBlue says it intends to offer a twice daily link to Mexico City’s Benito Juárez International Airport from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and a daily service from Orlando International Airport. Both routes will be served with 150-seat Airbus A320 equipment.
The existing New York – Cartagena route from JetBlue has proved successful in connecting Cartagena with the North East United States and the carrier is hopeful of replicating this success further south with a new link from Fort Lauderdale which launches on October 29, 2014.
There has been a significant increase in air services between Brazil and the US in recent years as a more relaxed bilateral agreement has been introduced ahead of the expected establishment of full Open Skies between the countries from October 1, 2015. This agreement between the two most populous countries and largest economies in the Americas has been a significant achievement after many years of negotiation.
The airline plans new flights to Cartagena, Colombia and Las Vegas, Nevada and Jacksonville, Florida from October 29, 2014, the same day the airline will also launch its previously announced non-stop service to Pittsburgh.
Already serving both Washington Reagan National and Baltimore Washington International airports, the carrier will launch 68 weekly flights to 14 destinations from Dulles International Airport from August this year.
There are currently no direct services between Ecuador and Fort Lauderdale, although American Airlines and LanEcuador offer flights to Miami from Quito. According to MIDT data, an estimated 422,000 bi-directional O&D passengers travelled between Ecuador and Florida in 2013.
The new Pittsburgh – Fort Lauderdale route will increase the flight options in and out of Florida for those in Allegheny County and will bring competition to the existing at least daily Southwest Airlines offering on the route.
