Flynas will open a new operations base at Abha International Airport in late March, expanding its domestic and international footprint in southern Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi government is planning to greatly expand Abha International Airport, located in the far southwest of the country near the border with Yemen.

Abha International Airport will undergo a makeover that will see its terminal grow from 10,500m² to 65,000m².

The airline is targeting routes to 14 destinations, including six in Europe and two in North America.

The airlines said the agreement will boost connectivity in the region.

The new four times weekly link to Abha, the capital of Asir, a south-western province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a location gaining popularity in the region as a tourist destination due to attractions such as its mild seasonal weather and fertile mountains, will commence from September 2, 2015 and will be flown using an Airbus A320.
