U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood yesterday denounced the EU’s emissions trading system (ETS) and said he is in talks with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on enforcement measures. Speaking at the FAA Forecast Conference in Washington LaHood declined to elaborate on the specific nature of those enforcement measures. Visibly angry when speaking of the ETS, LaHood called the EU’s imposition of the system “one of the biggest irritations” of his tenure at the head of the Transportation Dept. “This system makes no sense at all!” he said.

Bombardier recently celebrated the delivery of the 400th Learjet 60. The aircraft, a Learjet 60 XR, was handed over to Cinépolis, a corporation based in Morelia, Mexico, during a Feb. 28 ceremony in Morelia. Founded in 1994, Cinépolis operates 265 cinemas in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Brazil and India. The Learjet 60 was certified in 1993, and the 60 XR replaced the original 60 on the production line in 2007.
Industry officials are laying the groundwork with economic ministers to build the business aviation market in the Asia Pacific region.
