Japan's Minister of State for Science and Technology Hidenao Nakagawa and NASA Administrator Dan Goldin have agreed to develop a new U.S./Japanese cooperative exchange program for space and scientific research, the Japanese official said last week. Speaking at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington on Thursday, Nakagawa said he and Goldin had agreed Wednesday to set up a "working level team" to devise a "concrete method" for developing a cooperative program.
Defeat of Sen. Sheila Frahm (R-Kan.) in the Kansas Senate Republican primary last week means there will be at least four vacancies on the 21-member Senate Armed Services Committee in January.
