Rockwell Collins signed a five-year, $130 million performance-based logistics contract with the Naval Inventory Control Point. The deal includes managing, supporting and repairing various models of the F/A-18 cockpit displays. Rockwell Collins is signing contracts with naval air depots in San Diego and Jacksonville to perform jointly about 66% of the depot work; Rockwell Collins will complete the rest.

Twelve Boeing AH-64D Longbow Apache attack helicopters ordered by the Hellenic government in August from a euro 620 million ($680 million) contract will incorporate BAE Systems' advanced helicopter integrated defensive aid suites (HIDAS). Developed for the British Army Air Corps' AgustaWestland WAH-64s by BAE following its Marconi Electronic Systems merger, HIDAS uses mainly British components, apart from Lockheed Martin's UV/IR-based AN/AAR-57 common missile warning system and AN/APR-48 RF interferometer (RFI).

Nordic East Airlink of Sweden selected SAS Component to provide component supply and maintenance support for its MD-81 fleet. The contract includes access to SAS Component's main and base stores in Scandinavia and supply of components on demand to line stations. Finnair owns 85% of Nordic Airlink.

Air France Industries and Boeing Commercial Aviation Services formed a 777 component services program designed to give airlines quick component access and to reduce LRU inventory costs. Air Austral is the service's launch customer. A replacement part will be sent within one day of order receipt, then Air France Industries or Boeing will repair the faulty unit, upgrade it to the latest design changes and return it to the exchange inventory.

Signature of a contract exceeding 120 million ($131.65 million) was announced in July by Eurofighter GmbH. It covers Initial Operational Phase in-service support for the Typhoon air combat aircraft beginning to equip the air forces of the four partner countries. Designated PC-11, the Eurofighter support contract is based on a close collaboration between industry and its military partners. It sets out to provide a unique and highly responsive support network that will significantly reduce weapon system ownership costs.

B/E Aerospace cabin interior products will be featured in Northwest Airlines' new Airbus A330 business class and coach sections. Malaysia Airlines also selected B/E Aerospace to provide a turnkey cabin interior upgrade package for its first and business class seats in Boeing 747 and 777 aircraft.

The RAF's upgraded BAE Systems Harrier GR.9 prototype development aircraft (ZD320), a follow-on to GR.7/7A ground-attack fighter, made its initial flight from Warton in Lancashire, on May 30. Flown by BAE Systems test pilot John Lawson, ZD320 took off conventionally, for a successful 70-minute sortie, which included a short hover. The flight represented a significant milestone in a program that provides Harrier combat enhancements, with advanced mission system avionics, and smart weapons capabilities.

KLM on Oct. 22 is set to take delivery of the first Electron-ic Flight Bag (EFB) that will be installed on a 777. The airline ordered 10 Jeppesen EFBs, which contain the documentation and forms for pilots, on its 777 fleet. KLM's EFBs will use a hard-mounted Class 3 version that includes Jeppesen software so pilots can access airport diagrams and see runways and taxiways to improve situational awareness. A major Boeing upgrade of 12 Egyptian Air Force (EAF) CH-47C Chinook heavy-lift helicopters to CH-47D standards reached an advanced stage in July with entry into service of three more modernized Chinooks at their main base of Kom Awshem, about 100 km south of Cairo. The three Chinooks, one of them delivered six weeks ahead of schedule, officially joined their new squadron on June 4, and began military missions and training operations almost immediately. Both Honeywell and Rockwell Collins are delivering mature products to Bombardier for the Challenger 300. Honeywell's 8,000-lb.-thrust AS907 engine completed 26,000 hours of testing to prepare for its entry into service, which is three times more than other Honeywell engines entering service, said John Ricciardelli, Honeywell director of the AS900 product line. Honeywell enlisted an operators' advisory board and 20 mechanics from seven service centers from the program's first day to provide input into the engine.

Gulfstream Aerospace received a contract worth up to $473 million from Israel's Ministry of Defense to supply and support four Gulfstream G550s.
