The drive to save money on engine repair and maintenance is ongoing in Europe and around the world. Engine MROs and manufacturers report increasing operator demands for more cost effective options -- including the use of used life-limited parts and materials, and for more on-wing repairs. Cardiff-based Total Engine Support (TES) manages the engine maintenance programs of more than 2,000 engines for a range of operators -- a position that provides a unique view of the engine maintenance market.

Business aircraft MRO providers are on a consolidation path, as recent merger and acquisition activity in the industry has shown. To cite just two examples, in August 2005, the Carlyle Group brought Piedmont Hawthorne, Garrett Aviation and Associated Air Center together under the Landmark Aviation umbrella. Earlier this year, a high profile international deal came together as Jet Aviation of Switzerland acquired Midcoast Aviation, a well-known corporate aircraft MRO center based near St. Louis.
