Embraer will implement Quantum Control ’ s enterprise resource planning software for its new U.S. Embraer Executive Jets service centers, set to open this quarter. The OEM also uses Quantum software at its Windsor Locks, Conn., and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., executive jet service centers.
Nordam promoted Meredith Siegfried to COO of its repair group, responsible for worldwide MRO operations. Siegfried previously served as VP of global sales and North American operations (MRO). Her promotion was part of a management reorganization that saw Bill Preacher named to succeed Ken Lackey as CEO of Nordam, effective Jan. 1. Hastings Siegfried was named COO of the Nordam Transparency division in Tulsa and Nordam Transparency Europe Ltd. in the U.K., and Raymond (Tray) Siegfried III was elected vice chairman of Nordam.
Eurocopter subsidiary Australian Aerospace, MTR (a joint venture of MTU Aero Engines, Turbomeca and Rolls-Royce) and Turbomeca Australasia together will provide through life support for the Australian Army’s new fleet of Tiger (ARH) Armed Reconnaissance Helicopters. Under the contract, MTR will provide technical, logistics and supply support services for the Tiger's MTR390-2C engines, and Turbomeca Australasia's in-country repair center in Bankstown, Sydney, will provide deeper maintenance services.

Caribbean Airlines plans to launch a technical apprenticeship program this year to recruit and train maintenance workers, following recent moves to bring MRO back in-house. In July, the Trinidad and Tobago-based carrier finished its first “ in-sourced ” C check on a Boeing 737-800NG, and it finished up a second in late November. Innovative Power Solutions will support aircraft electric turbine starters and generators for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and Boeing under three new, long-term agreements worth more than $10 million. It will upgrade the electric DC starters on the U.S. Navy’s AH-1 Cobra Attack helicopters under a Logistics Engineering Change Proposal, in addition to follow-on repair and overhaul activities. A five-year repair and overhaul agreement also covers the 60KVA AC generators on the Navy’s P-3 aircraft. For the U.S.

Alaska Air Group named Glenn Johnson, former EVP of customer service–airports and maintenance and engineering, CFO and EVP of finance for Alaska Air Group and Alaska Airlines. Johnson fills the position for Brad Tilden, who was elected president of Alaska Airlines. The group also named Ben Minicucci COO and EVP of operations for Alaska Airlines, in charge of flight operations, maintenance and engineering, and airport customer service. Minicucci most recently was VP of Seattle operations.
GE Aviation named Paul Theofan president and managing executive of GE Aviation Czech. Theofan most recently was VP of marketing and sales for Unison Industries, which GE acquired in 2002. In his new role Theofan will oversee GE Aviation Czech's business, including the design, manufacturing, marketing and support of Walter Aircraft Engines.
Despite a significant drop in earnings recently, Emirates remains the market leader in the Middle East, from its award-winning commercial passenger service to its MRO business. In addition to its full support to Emirates, the MRO division provides line, base, airframe, engine and component maintenance to a wide range of customers in Dubai and at number of outstations. Some services offered include NDT, wheels/brakes, structures, avionics and installation of safety equipment.

Inspection requirements were announced in late October for U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Boeing F/A-18A through D model Hornets for stress cracks on a hinge connecting the aileron to the flaps on the rear of the wings after a crack was discovered during a routine flight inspection. Hinge failure could result in losing the aileron, possibly further damaging or even losing the aircraft, according to the Navy.
