Airports Council International's February results showed a 3% decline in cargo traffic, 5% decrease in aircraft movements and no percentage change in passenger traffic compared with the same month last year. There was a general decline in February passenger traffic at 20 of the top 30 airports compared with last year. Chicago and Hong Kong showed decreases of 10.2% and 10.7%, respectively. In contrast, Madrid passenger traffic was up 10%, Sydney 6%, and both Frankfurt and Las Vegas 4%.

Continental Airlines resumed normal flight operations June 10 after a flash flood caused by Tropical Storm Allison forced the airline to cancel 500 flights on June 9 and another 100 the next day. A Continental official said more than 2 ft. of rain ``severely disrupted'' the carrier's schedule at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport and affected flights nationwide for two days. The chief problem June 9 was roadway access into the airport because floodwaters prevented safe passage, he said.

The European Commission has decided a modified travel portal joint venture between Deutsche Telekom unit T-Online and two German charter/tour operators, Preussag and C&N, a Lufthansa affiliate, would not require EC approval. The competition commissioner had threatened earlier to review the deal because of its potential to dominate the online segment of the travel industry. T-Online is the largest Internet provider in Europe, and Preussag and C&N the No. 1 and No. 3 travel operators.
