Paul Falkler has been named VP/general manager and Michael Reiners director of cybercrime analysis and investigations for BAE Systems' Information Technology & Cybersecurity. Falkler was VP/general manager for cybersecurity solutions. Reiners worked for the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

USAF Brig. Gens. Rowayne A. Schatz, Jr., John F. Thompson and Joseph S. Ward, Jr., have been selected for promotion to major general. Schatz is director of strategic plans, requirements and programs at Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott AFB, Ill. Thompson is program executive officer for strategic systems at the Aeronautical Systems Center of Air Force Materiel Command, Kirtland AFB, N.M. And, Ward is director of budget operations and personnel in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller at the Pentagon.

USN Rear Adm. (lower half) Michael C. Manazir has been appointed commander of Carrier Strike Group Eight, Norfolk, Va. He has been head of naval aviation programs in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OCNO) in Washington. Rear Adm. (lower half) Matthew L. Klunder has been named chief of naval research and director, test and evaluation, and technology requirements in the OCNO. He has been its director of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.

The iconic founder and now chairman emeritus of Southwest Airlines is adding a new wrinkle to the debate over Boeing's next move in the single-aisle aircraft market.

China's airline industry needs to consolidate further, with the aim of building only two or three internationally competitive airlines, says the Civil Aviation Administration of China. The remarks by CAAC chief Li Jiaxiang seem to suggest at least one merger among China's four main airlines—China Southern, China Eastern, Air China and Hainan. The consolidation should happen as soon as possible, under the guidance of the government and through market activity, says Li, presumably referring to the purchase of publicly traded shares.
