Speaking of elections ...
This picture of Senator John F. Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) was taken in September 1960 in Alaska. JFK barely lost in Alaska to incumbent Vice President Richard Nixon (R-California) in the state’s first presidential election. Nixon won 50.94% of the vote, while JFK took 49.06%.
The aircraft JFK is boarding is a Fairchild F-27B that was built in 1958 and was operated by Northern Consolidated Airlines (NCA).
NCA was born in 1946 through the merger of seven Alaska bush airlines. It picked up routes that Alaska Airlines and Pacific Northern Airlines had dropped in the early 1960s.
NCA merged with Wien Air Alaska in April 1968.
