From The Archives: Aerial View Of Atlanta Airport

In this feature article about the National Air Tour of 1929, we can see a view of Atlanta Airport photographed from the air as competing aircraft landed at Georgia state's airport. The airport has changed somewhat over the years as we can see from this image as MRO Americas delegates and exhibitors arrive into Atlanta.

The image was published in our magazine called, at the time, - Aviation, in the issue dated Nov. 2, 1929 on page 877

Competing pilots touched down in the second week of the Tour and "after covering a distance of 2,263 miles or a little less than half of the 5,017 miles included in the Tour route", and Atlanta was named a two-day stop. Pilots spent the weekend exploring the city.

Read more about the Tour, problems encountered by the pilots including storms and damage that caused some contestants to pull out of the competition.

See the cover of the magazine, on which the magazine boasts is the "oldest American aeronautical magazine.
