SINGAPORE—Pratt & Whitney’s growing Asian presence has received another boost with the selection by China Airlines’ LCC subsidiary Tigerair Taiwan of the PW1100G geared turbofan (GTF) to power 15 Airbus A320neos.

Seven of the aircraft, which will begin deliveries from 2021 onward, are direct purchases from Airbus while the balance will be leased. Pratt notes the order follows China Airline’s selection of the PW1100G in December 2019 to power up to 30 A321neos. The engine maker will also provide Tigerair with maintenance through a long-term service agreement.

Tigerair, which currently operates a fleet of 11 International Aero Engines V2500-powered A320s, operates from Taiwan to a network including 14 destinations in Japan; Macau; Cebu, Kalibo and Palawan in the Philippines; Busan, Daegu and Jeju in South Korea; Kaohsiung, Taichung and Taipei in Taiwan; and Bangkok, Thailand.
