Poll: In which maintenance segment will M&A activity be focused on after the coronavirus?

In one of the Ask the Editor questions, Aviation Week's France Bureau Chief, Thierry Dubois, responds to the question - What are the prospects for a merger in Europe to counter the newly created Raytheon Technologies? Is a similar merger likely between Safran and Thales?

It is highly unlikely. Asked May 6 about the possibility of such a tie-up, Dassault Aviation Chairman and CEO Eric Trappier had a blunt answer: “No.” 

Dassault owns 24.6% of Thales, which makes it the second-largest shareholder after the French state, which owns 25.7%. A shareholder agreement describes Dassault as the “reference industrial shareholder” and secures a significant influence for the airframer in Thales’ strategy.
