Saudi presents peace plan to end Yemen war

Saudi Arabia has presented a new peace initiative to end the war in Yemen. The initiative is receiving support from countries around the region plus the UN and the EU. Yemen's internationally recognised government has also welcomed the initiative to end the conflict.

The Kingdom has called for a nationwide ceasefire under UN supervision as well as the reopening of Sana’a airport, allowing fuel and food imports through Hodeidah port and restarting political negotiations between the Saudi-Backed government and the Iran-aligned Houthis according to Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, yesterday.
The Houthi rebels have demanded the lifting of an air and sea blockade which many observes say has led to the world's worst humanitarian crisis, as their main pre-condition to any peace agreement. The Saudi coalition has resisted this in order to prevent weapons reaching the Houthi rebels who control the capital.
